Social Media Today
Social media platforms have become very popular for the last few years among the younger generations and the general population. One of the most useful purposes of social media sites is using sites like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace, and then connecting with people you are already connected to offline. The real power behind the social media movement is the ability to develop a large network that could not otherwise be developed.
At Time and Space Media we allow our employees to access social network websites for business-related purposes. Social network sites are powerful and many are aimed at teenagers and young adults. They are so powerful that the average teen spends around 31 hours per week online visiting sites such as Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace. This is the infectious nature of immediate connections and direct messaging.
MySpace, YouTube, and Facebook are three of the most popular websites for new media. MySpace was created in 2003. It was the most popular social media platform in 2006. It allows users a much wider range of customization. With about 70 million visitors, it has become the digital equivalent of hanging out at the mall for today's teens.
YouTube began in 2005, by Steven Chen, Chad Hurley, and Jawed Karim. Users are able to share videos that contain useful information along with viewing videos. The videos include a variety of information that is resourceful to all people.
Mark Zukerberg founded Facebook in 2004, which is a social network that enables users to interact with others and post pictures of themselves, family members, and friends. In 2009, Facebook was the most used social network. In June of 2009, individuals spent more time on Facebook than any other web page.
